This course will provide a general understanding of oral surgery in general dental practice. It will provide surgical skills to assess, plan and execute surgical extractions at a general dentist level and supply an arsenal of tips when things don't go to plan. The course will consist of lectures and pig-jaw surgery.

Learning outcomes

Learning objectives include: - Assessing surgical extractions - Troubleshooting complications during oral surgery - Raising flaps, removing bone and suturing techniques - Understanding post-operative pain control and healing

Dr Jonathan Martin BDS(Otago), DClinDent(Perio)

Jono is a Specialist Periodontist practising in the Bay of Plenty. He has a comprehensive background in dentistry, having practised in the hospital and private sectors in Masterton, New Plymouth and Dunedin, with experience in oral surgery under IV Sedation and General Anaesthesia. Jono completed his DClinDent degree in Periodontics at the University of Otago. Jono’s areas of interest include soft tissue grafting, dental implants, and bone augmentation. His periodontic training enables the proficient use of flaps and suturing techniques in his surgical cases.
