Smiles for the Pacific

Smiles for the Pacific provides a voluntary dental service for Pacific patients who do not have access to quality dental treatments. They work with the Fijian Ministry of Health to provide a dental surgery in Lautoka, Fiji where they offer New Zealand dentists the opportunity to volunteer their time and to share their knowledge with local dental professionals. Spend a few days volunteering and stay on to enjoy some R&R in the tropical islands.

Volunteer opportunities for Dental Professionals with YWAM MSA

YWAM Medical Ships - Australia (YWAM MSA) operates in Papua New Guinea (PNG), actively developing communities by addressing the health care and training needs in PNG alongside the priorities and vision of the PNG National Health Plan, PNG National Department of Education, and DFAT's commitment to the UN's Millennium Development Goals. YWAM MSA is implementing programs with its new training and medical ship, the MV YWAM PNG and land-based teams in rural PNG communities in association with key stakeholders and partners.

The dental needs in Papua New Guinea are extreme. One dentist serves 100,000 individuals. This means communities in remote areas will live and die without having ever seen a dentist. Traditionally even the trained dentists who practice, work without an assistant, slowing the limited services they can provide. This has huge implications.

YWAM MSA has opportunities available for a variety of health professionals, including dentists, dental therapist, hygienists, and dental assistants to volunteer on board the MV YWAM PNG.

For more information on volunteering, please see visit www.ywamships.org.au or contact us at [email protected] or phone us: +61 7 4771 2123.

YWAM Ships Aotearoa–Domestic and Pacific Islands

Volunteer opportunities for Dental Professionals

With a mandate to empower a healthy future for the Pacific, YWAM Ships Aotearoa provides free dental care in the Pacific on board the m/v YWAM KOHA and domestically through Trinity Koha Dental Clinics. Two refit shipping containers house modern dental units that can be used on board our ship or transported to underserved regions of New Zealand.

The dental needs of isolated Pacific peoples and many New Zealanders is staggering. The lack of dental care and basic dental hygiene creates an ongoing burden for many individuals, families and communities.

Dentists, dental assistants and hygienists are needed. Outreaches range from a few days to a few weeks. If you are interested in using your skills where they are needed most, we would love to connect with you.
