Kick off the Southland branch's 2025 meetings with an engaging and thought-provoking session! Dr. Blake Moore, an experienced clinician with a background in both Dentistry and Medicine, will lead a discussion on the topic: "Does a Stitch in Time Save Nine? – Thinking About Prophylactic Removal of Wisdom Teeth." Drawing on his extensive experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery across New Zealand and Australia, as well as his current studies in the DClinDent Oral Surgery program, Dr. Moore will explore the pros and cons of early wisdom tooth removal.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will have a deeper understanding of the benefits and risks associated with the prophylactic removal of wisdom teeth, as well as the clinical indicators for early extraction. Attendees will explore evidence-based guidelines and gain practical insights into managing third molars, including strategies for effective patient communication regarding treatment options. Additionally, the session will highlight potential complications of delayed intervention, equipping participants with the knowledge to make informed decisions in their clinical practice.

Dr Blake Moore BDS, MBChB

Dr. Blake Moore graduated with a degree in Dentistry in 2011 and Medicine in 2016. He has gained extensive experience working in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at Middlemore, Waikato, Christchurch, and Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Currently, he is in the final year of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) Oral Surgery program, further honing his expertise in surgical and clinical care.
