This online CPD session, presented by Dr. Jack Saunders, covers essential aspects of consumer rights, informed consent, and risk management in general dental practice. Using real-world examples, Dr. Saunders will outline how practitioners can meet their obligations under the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights, respond effectively to complaints, and maintain clear, defensible documentation. The session is part of the NZDA GPDP programme and is delivered via Zoom.

Learning outcomes

Describe the key rights under the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights. Identify common risk areas in consent and communication. Apply practical strategies to manage complaints and reduce medico-legal exposure. Improve documentation to support defensible and ethical dental care.

Dr. Jack Saunders, Graduated in 2023 from University of Otago, he has a background in Neuroscience prior to Dentistry. He has an interest in restorative and rehabilitative dentistry.

Isha Woodhams BDS MBA

Dr. Isha Woodhams is a general dentist, business owner, and clinical educator with a special interest in digital dentistry, implants, and comprehensive treatment planning. She is also a past president of NZDA Hawke’s Bay and holds an MBA from Victoria University of Wellington.
