This course's philosophy allows participants to slowly build their skills and confidence in carrying out endodontic treatment on all teeth. The two-day course will be treatment based with interactive demonstrations and discussions of all phases of endodontic treatment. Participants will carry out the clinical exercises on teaching models and natural teeth. The clinical sessions will be preceded by practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises. These include the rapid application of rubber dam and endodontic radiology. Clinically participants will have the opportunity to use the latest technology, including apex locators, rotary NiTi files and gutta-percha root filling devices. This workshop will include a comprehensive set of notes.

Carry out pre-treatment procedures to assess if the tooth can be treated Apply rubber dam efficiently and quickly in all endodontic cases Take consistent radiographic images during treatment Understand access cavity design and clues to canal location Determining the working length by manual and electronic methods Understand the role and of irrigation and intracanal medication Understand the principles of rotary instrumentation regardless of the system being used Evaluate different obturation techniques and materials

Dr Alexander Lee

Dr Lee is an endodontist working in Sydney. He graduated in 1993 from the University of Queensland where he also obtained his specialist training in 2000. He was in general practice for 8 years before starting his specialist endodontic practice in Hornsby in 2003.

Dr Amanda Law

Dr Amanda Law graduated from the University of Sydney in 1997 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, the University Medal and First Class Honours. During her undergraduate course, Amanda was conferred numerous awards, including anatomy, histology, anaesthesia, endodontics, paediatric dentistry and restorative/clinical dentistry. Upon graduation she returned to work at the University of Sydney as an Associate Lecturer in Restorative dentistry whilst also working in private practice as a general dentist. In 2002, she obtained her Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and completed a Graduate Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) followed by a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) from the University of Melbourne in 2004. She returned to Sydney to commence specialist endodontic practice and continued teaching as a Clinical Associate (specialist endodontist) with the University of Sydney School of Dentistry, working with senior dental students in specialist endodontic clinics at the Westmead Centre of Oral Health for several years before concentrating on private practice and family. She is a member of the Australian Dental Association, the Australian Society of Endodontology and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists. Amanda has been in practice as an endodontist for nearly 17 years.

Dr Marcus Yan

Dr Marcus Yan completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Sydney in 1994. After four years of general dentistry in NSW, Marcus completed a Master of Dental Science degree in Endodontics from the University of Queensland and a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in 2001. In 2008, Marcus was admitted as a member of the RACDS in the specialist field of Endodontics. Marcus is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International. He was also a captain of the Royal Australian Army Reserve Dental Corps. Marcus is active in promoting the development of Endodontics in Australia, was the Councilor member (Australia) of the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation since 2005 He was also a former president of the Australian Society of Endodontology (NSW) Branch (2006-2007). Recently, Marcus is elected as the secretary for Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation (2023-2025) Marcus is particularly interested in rotary instrumentation and surgical endodontics. He has lectured on microsurgical endodontics across Australia and overseas (Hong Kong, Malaysia and South Korea) and published papers in the Australian Endodontic Journal and Annals of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Marcus regularly conducts Endodontics courses nationally and internationally. Since 2002, he has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sydney. In 2017, he became a Senior Lecturer in Endodontics at the University of Queensland. Marcus was appointed as a Guest Professor for the Masters of Endodontics program at the International University in Cambodia in 2015 and an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Puthisastra in Cambodia in 2021. Marcus has participated in various community service initiatives. These include: - Volunteer dentist, Yunnan Province, China 2008 - Volunteer dentist and teacher - Kids International Dental Services, Cambodia 2014 to 2018 - Cambodia Oral Health Partnership, 1-9 Feb 2020 Marcus is currently in private practice. Outside of endodontics, Marcus enjoys badminton, running marathons and spending time with his family.

Dr Monique Cheung

Dr Monique Cheung graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2008. She worked in general dentistry in Sydney for 11 years, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in 2013. Monique completed a PhD in 2020 on the topic of dental implant maintenance and obtained her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics in 2022, both at the University of Melbourne. She has published several papers in the Australian Dental Journal and other peer-reviewed international journals. Monique has been involved with teaching in endodontics to dentists and dental students at the University of Melbourne and in NSW. She is a member of the Australian Society of Endodontology and the Australian Dental Association, and regularly attends scientific meetings to keep up to date with the latest research in dentistry and endodontics. Monique has special interest in the management of dental trauma. Outside of endodontics, Monique enjoys playing racquet sports, hiking and classical music.

Dr Peter Case

Dr Peter Case (NSW) was a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Australian Navy, serving as the Fleet Dental Surgeon, providing endodontic treatment and was one of the senior clinical mentors for the junior dental officers of the Australian Defence Force. Peter is the President of the Australian Society of Endodontology (NSW) and Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists.

Dr Robyn Thomas

Dr Thomas (BDS, MDSc, MRACDS(Endo), FPFA) has worked as a specialist endodontist in Sydney since 1986. Robyn has taught undergraduate endodontics since 1981 at the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital, initially as a full-time academic and then as a visiting lecturer. In addition to working in private practice, she was a consultant endodontist to the Defence Force, working at HMAS Kuttabul for nearly 20 years and continues to treat many Defence members. She has given lectures to many professional organizations and has served on the executive of the ASE (NSW Branch) and ANZAE.

Dr Steven Cohn

Dr Steven Cohn AM is a specialist endodontist in Sydney. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate endodontics at the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital since 1979 and is the former Director of Postgraduate Endodontic Education at the University of Sydney. Dr Cohn is presently Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Puthisastra in Cambodia and Director of the Diploma in Endodontics program. In 2019 he founded the Cambodia Oral Health Partnership that provides dental care for children in Cambodia. Until recently Dr Cohn was a Federal ADA Media Advisor responsible for the development and delivery of educational content for the dental profession. In 1998 Steve started the first specific microscope training course for endodontists and endodontic postgraduate students in Australia. This course has run annually except for the Covid period. Since 2009 Steve, Dr Rick Spencer (and now Drs Sabrina Manickam and Tim McAnulty) and Ms Barbara Faulkner have conducted microscope courses for general practitioners. Steve also does hands on microscope training on an individual basis in dentist’s rooms. Dr Cohn also presents “hands on“ clinics on rubber dam utilisation with Dr Rick Spencer and Ms Barbara Faulkner emphasising rubber dam application in both endodontics and general practice. Steve has also made a rubber dam training videos for the ADA (NSW Branch) CPD and videos on endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning for the Federal ADA. Dr Cohn has also maintained a long interest in dental radiology. He was a consultant to the Dunvale and Rinn corporations and assisted with developing both the Rinn DS and DS Endo devices. He designed both the Snapex (1979) and TruView (2017) radiography systems, both specifically to be used for all endodontic and restorative procedures carried out under rubber dam. Steve regularly conducts “hands on” radiology workshops throughout Australia.
