We have three oral surgeons, two Prosthodontists and a special care dentist speaking on various subjects for the day.

Learning outcomes

For young dentists to be better educated for general dentistry in New Zealand.

Speakers

Dr Andrew Newsom BSc, BDS, Dip Clin Dent Rest (Lond) DClinDent (Pros), MRACDS (Pros)

Andrew qualified with a Bachelor of Science Degree at Canterbury University in 1992 before completing a Dental Degree at Otago University in 1996. He has since completed a Diploma in Restorative Dental Practice and a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry with credit. He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and maintains a strong commitment to ongoing education. He has been working as the only Prosthodontist in the BOP until recently when Lin has joined his practice.

Dr Ai Lin Tee BDS, FRACDS (GDP), DClinDent (Pros)

Lin graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in 2017 and has since completed her exams to become a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Lin returned to Otago to complete to Doctorate in Clinical Dentisty and has contributed to dental education by teaching and examining students at the University of Otago. She has worked in dentistry in Auckland, Waikato and more recently joined Andrew in his specialist Prosthodontist Practice in Tauranga.

Dr Ai Lin Tee 

Dr Beatrice Ng BDS(Hons), MFDS RCSEd, DClinDent (SND), MRACDS(SND)

Beatrice attained a clinical doctoral degree in Special Needs Dentistry from the University of Otago 2022 and proceeded to work in this specialty at Christchurch Hospital. She has since settled in Tauranga and has been practising at Tauranga Special Care Dentistry, providing care for those with learning disabilities, behavioural disorders, dental anxiety, motor neuron diseases, PTSD, cancer and more.

Dr Brenton Wilson MBBS (Hons), BDS, FRACDS (OMS)

Brenton completed both his medical degree and dental degree at James Cook University in far north Queensland. He has since completed his specialist maxillofacial traning in NZ and worked in Christchurch, Dunedin, Waikato and Auckland training units. He joined Tauranga OMS in 2024 where he practices the breadth of general scope maxillofacial surgery including oral surgery, orthognathic, TMJ, salivary gland, facial skin cancer,infection and facial trauma.

Dr Abi Estelle MBBS, BDS, MRCS (Eng), FRCD (C)

Abi completed her medical degree and spent her junior house officer years rotating through general surgery and ENT, before returning to the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ University to study and complete her dentistry degree. She then moved to Jacksonville, Florida to undertake 5 years oral and maxillofacial specialty training. She joined Tauranga OMS approximately five years ago.

Dr Nabeela Ahmed BDS, MFDS (Eng), MBChB, FRCS (OMFS), MMedsci (Med Ed)

Nabeela completed dental training in London, then graduated in medicine from the University of Sheffield.. She did a 2 year fellowship at the Royal Darwin Hospital, Australia and Waikato Hospital. She has also undertaken a formal AO Trauma fellowship in Munich, Germany, to pursue her interest in facial trauma. She worked full time from 2021-2024 as a UK NHS consultant at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. She joined Tauranga OMS in 2024, with special interests in trauma, and facial deformaty although practices the full spectrum of maxillofacial surgery.
