Rheumatic Fever Video Resources

NZDA have worked in partnership with Health New Zealand to support the development of a new online learning module for health professionals. 

The four, 8-minute videos provide a practical overview of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease, while highlighting the role of oral health in prevention and long-term management.

They’re designed to support a shared understanding across the health workforce and to reinforce the importance of early intervention and coordinated care across the care continuum. 

For dentists and oral health teams, this resource offers useful context to support conversations with patients and integrated patient care. 

While it does not change professional scope or introduce new requirements, it does complement existing standards of care and supports informed clinical judgement. 

Its release, during Heart Health Awareness Month, provides timely context for ongoing efforts to improve cardiovascular health outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand.
