This regional continuing professional development event is designed for Oral Health Therapists, Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists practising throughout Hawke’s Bay. The session will provide participants with practical, evidence-based knowledge on contemporary periodontal management, with a focus on strategies to preserve natural dentition in both motivated and less motivated patients. The event also supports regional collaboration and professional networking, encouraging the sharing of clinical experiences and best practice across the oral health workforce.

Learning outcomes

* Recognise the clinical signs of gastro-oesophageal reflux in adult and paediatric patients. * Differentiate patterns of tooth wear associated with intrinsic acid erosion and document findings using clinical photography. * Understand the periodontal considerations associated with patients presenting with erosive tooth wear. * Deliver effective oral hygiene instruction and preventative advice tailored to patients at risk of acid erosion. * Identify when referral for medical assessment is appropriate and incorporate multidisciplinary management into patient care
