Upon completing this course, you will be able to: • Understand key anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to safe sedation. • Explain sedation levels, associated risks, and legal/ethical responsibilities. • Apply infection control and aseptic techniques during sedation procedures. • Monitor sedated patients using essential equipment (capnography, pulse oximetry, ECG, BP). • Recognise early signs of complications and respond effectively to emergencies. • Work confidently as part of a sedation team, maintaining situational awareness and patienadvocacy. Stuart has over 30 years of experience in acute and critical care across hospital and pre-hospital settings. He has worked as an ICU and Emergency Clinical Nurse Specialist and as a Critical Care Paramedic. With specialised expertise in advanced airway management and Rapid Sequence Induction, Stuart brings a strong focus on patient safety, early recognition of deterioration, and effective team response during sedation procedures. As an NZRC CORE Advanced Instructor, he delivers evidence-based advanced life support and sedation-related emergency training to dental practices across New Zeland.
