How we can motivate and engage them in the process using data your practice software already provides. Also to realise that the teaching we provide to patients is ongoing and that their learning is progressive. But to help them during the journey, we must impart the right information and instruction, right down to almost holding their hand. Once the principles of this system are applied, you will experience behaviour change. For the better!

Learning outcomes

The ability to track a patient’s progress and put them in charge of the own health allows the patient to control their own destiny. The three most important elements in dental disease prevention. 1. The Bleeding Score 2. GBT (Guided iofilm therapy) 3. A systematised approach to maintaining oral health.

Speaker

Dr Kevin Tims BDS (Otago)

Kevin has just celebrated 40 years of general practice after graduating in 1984 from Otago. The key moments which led him to this point was the purchase of a Zeiss operating scope in 2009 and the subsequent course he attended at Sydney University on how best to use this tool. At that time his hygienist had just left and with no immediate replacement, he decided to DIY. From what he saw under the scope in treated patients, he realised that hygienist’s have a tough time. No assistant and no magnification. He enjoyed it so much he still does his own patient hygiene.
