This is an opportunity to introduce and provide information on the new codes, Silver Diamine Fluoride, Pulp Capping and Pulpotomy as part of the new Combined Dental Agreement and an opportunity to ask clarifying questions. The new codes and updated CDA Operational Guidelines will be going live from November 2025. For any questions at the webinar outside of this, we are happy for these to be emailed through to Health NZ national oral health team ([email protected]) to manage offline or if there is a lot of claim based queries, Health NZ claims system team (HSAAP) are happy to organise and host a separate webinar if that would be helpful.

Assoc. Prof Lara Friedlander Associate Dean and Head of Discipline for Endodontics at the University of Otago, New Zealand

Associate Professor Lara Friedlander is an Associate Dean and Head of Discipline for Endodontics at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Lara leads the Clinical Doctorate programme for specialist training in Endodontics and has supervised numerous Doctorate and PhD students. Recently, she spearheaded research to develop a New Zealand clinical guideline for managing patients with deep caries and the exposed pulp. She introduced advanced endodontic modules using rotary and reciprocating techniques into the Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme at Otago and contributed to an international panel that has developed guidelines for teaching endodontics in dental schools. Lara has also served as the Chief Examiner for the RACDS Fellowship in general dental practice and has received multiple international Fellowships and meritorious service awards for her contributions to the dental profession and education. With over 100 publications, she is an internationally recognised lecturer and leader in her field focusing on clinical endodontics, links between endodontics and systemic disease, pulp biology and dental education. She serves on the Board of the New Zealand Dental Research Foundation and has a special interest in vital pulp treatment. She is also a member of a global pulp preservation advisory board and a key opinion leader to industry. Lara is passionate about enhancing general dentists' endodontic skills and led the creation of New Zealand’s first Practice-Based Research Network, aimed at translating clinical questions into initiatives that improve patient treatment outcomes.

Dr Ellen Clark

Dr Ellen Clark Ellen Clark BDS, MComDent (Dist), FICD

Ellen Clark began her career following graduation with her BDS From Otago in 2008, as the first Dental House Surgeon at Whangarei Base Hospital (Northland, New Zealand). She has worked for the Northland District Health Board, for 15 years as a Community Dentist and was the Clinical Director from 2015-2021. She gained her public health specialist degree from Otago University in 2017 with distinction. She purchased a private practice in Mangawhai Heads (Northland, New Zealand) early in 2019, which she still owns and operates. She is well-published in both the local and international dental press, writing articles and reviewing submissions. Her research encompasses a wide range of oral conditions, most notably in the fields of dental caries. Her particular interest is in improving oral health outcomes and reducing health inequalities. Ellen was the president of the New Zealand School and Community Oral Health Service Society from 2020-2022, and is the current president of the New Zealand Society of Hospital Dentistry. She was inducted as a fellow into the International College of Dental Surgeons in 2022. Ellen was elected to be a member of the New Zealand Dental Association Board 2020 until the present. She participates in a number of charitable endeavours in and around her community. Ellen lives in Mangawhai, New Zealand with her husband and 2 children, and spends her spare time at the beach and in her garden.

Dr Donna Kennedy

Dr Donna Kennedy Dental Public Health Specialist at Health NZ Nelson Marlborough

A Dental Public Health Specialist at Health NZ Nelson Marlborough, where she serves as Head of Department for the Hospital Oral Health Service. She is the local ADO and national ADO representative on the (CDA Oral Health advisory group) and currently holds the presidency of the NZ Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry. Donna’s career spans both public and private sectors, including 21 years in general private practice. She has recently returned to part-time private practice alongside her public health roles.
