Basic Life Support Course

Participants will gain the vital skills and confidence required to recognise and respond effectively to life-threatening emergencies within the dental clinic. Through a combination of interactive discussions and hands-on practice, this course covers the essential components of rapid response, team dynamics, and patient stabilisation until emergency services arrive.

Learning outcomes

Swiftly identify and assess signs of sudden cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and common medical emergencies. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques for adults, children, and infants according to current NZ Resuscitation Council guidelines. Confidently and safely operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in the clinical environment. Efficiently manage foreign-body airway obstructions (choking) in both conscious and unconscious patients.
