Hygienist - Wellington
Dental Hygienist
Time to provide proper care - with professional autonomy, modern dentistry and a supportive team.
WELLINGTON CITY AND LOWER HUTT | FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME | $50-$65 PER HOUR
Salaried employee positions. Owner-led, not a chain. New graduates are welcome to apply.
Supreme Dental Concepts is an owner-led practice that has cared for patients across Wellington and the Hutt Valley for more than 35 years. We currently have two hygiene opportunities available, and we would rather find people who genuinely fit our practice than rush to fill the positions.
If you have ever felt like a cleaning machine on a conveyor belt, this is the opposite of that.
Two opportunities
Wellington City
A full-time position of approximately 35 hours per week within an established practice, with the opportunity to take meaningful professional responsibility for its periodontal and preventive care.
Lower Hutt
A part-time position of approximately two to three days per week, with a genuine pathway toward additional days and potentially full-time work as the hygiene patient base develops.
The roles may be shaped around the experience, interests and availability of the successful applicants.
What makes us different
Time to provide proper care
Our hygiene appointments are normally scheduled for one hour, unless the hygienist determines that a different appointment length is clinically appropriate. We do not impose rigid throughput targets or expect clinicians to rush patients. We value quality, careful assessment and patient trust rather than speed alone.
Genuine professional responsibility
You will have meaningful responsibility for periodontal assessment, charting, treatment, maintenance and patient education, working collaboratively with our dentists and within your professional scope of practice. We want our hygienists to use their clinical judgement rather than simply wait to be told what to do.
Modern, gentle hygiene
We support evidence-based preventive and periodontal care and are interested in developing an EMS AIRFLOW and GBT-style service with the right hygienist as the role becomes established. Our clinics use modern digital workflows, with iTero intraoral scanners available throughout the practice.
Patients who stay
Many of our patients have remained with the practice for 20 or 30 years. Some arrive feeling anxious, embarrassed or worried about being judged. They stay because we listen, explain things clearly and do not pressure, alarm or shame them.
A supportive team
Dental assistants will assist hygienists whenever staffing and the daily clinical schedule allow. At times, assistants may be supporting several clinicians or working in a floating capacity, so a dedicated assistant cannot be guaranteed for every appointment. You will nevertheless be supported by an experienced clinical, reception and administrative team.
Broader clinical opportunities
The primary responsibility is high-quality hygiene, periodontal and preventive care. Depending on patient demand and the clinician’s experience, the role may also include:
Treating children when appointments are available
Providing tooth-whitening treatment
Supporting patients during orthodontic care
Developing skills in digital scanning and patient education
Training as an orthodontic auxiliary may be offered once the clinician has demonstrated confidence, consistency and proficiency in the core hygiene role. This is a development opportunity rather than an immediate requirement.
Who we are looking for
Registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand and holding a current Annual Practising Certificate
Confident in, or keen to develop, contemporary periodontal and preventive care
Gentle in the chair and able to reassure anxious or embarrassed patients
Clear in communication and non-judgemental in approach
Willing to recommend care because it is clinically appropriate, not because of pressure to upsell
Interested in building long-term patient relationships
Able to work independently while collaborating with dentists and the wider team
Reliable, thoughtful and committed to high clinical standards
New graduates are welcome
Applications from new graduates will be considered. We understand that a new graduate requires appropriate support, time and guidance while developing confidence. The suitability of the role, working pattern and level of supervision will be discussed openly. Experienced hygienists are equally welcome, particularly those who would enjoy helping shape and strengthen our periodontal and preventive services.
Remuneration
These are salaried employee positions, paid at an hourly rate of $50-$65 depending on experience, clinical capability and the responsibilities of the role. Full employment terms, expected hours and working pattern will be discussed transparently with shortlisted applicants.
Commencement
The positions are available as soon as successful applicants are reasonably able to commence. We understand that candidates may need to complete a notice period or make arrangements with their current employer.
Why join Supreme Dental Concepts?
One-hour hygiene appointments as the usual standard
No artificial throughput targets
Professional responsibility for periodontal and preventive care
Full-time and part-time options
A competitive salaried hourly rate
Modern digital equipment and iTero scanning
Potential development into orthodontic auxiliary work
Opportunities to provide whitening and children’s care
Support for suitable new graduates
Long-standing patients and a strong recall culture
An experienced, friendly and owner-led team
A patient-first practice that does not judge, pressure or sell through fear
Interested?
We would genuinely welcome a conversation, even if you are not certain that you meet every point listed above, particularly if the way we practise resonates with you. Please include your CV, Dental Council registration details, preferred location, preferred days and hours, potential commencement date and any areas you would particularly like to develop.

Associate Dentist
Step into an established patient book from day one, with flexibility, clinical support and genuine room to grow.
APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS PER WEEK, WITH SCOPE TO EXPAND | WELLINGTON AND LOWER HUTT
Supreme Dental Concepts has cared for patients across Wellington and the Hutt Valley since 1990.
We are a trust-led, patient-first practice. We take the time to listen, explain our findings clearly and involve patients in decisions about their care. We do not sell through fear or pressure. Our aim is to build relationships that last for many years.
One of our valued dentists will be leaving in late September 2026, creating an opportunity for the right clinician to take over an established Lower Hutt patient book while also having the option to develop their presence at our Wellington clinic.
A rare opportunity
Many associate positions require a dentist to build a patient base from the beginning. This role is different.
An established book from week one. You will step into a warm Lower Hutt patient base with an existing recall system, while our Wellington clinic offers genuine scope to grow at a comfortable and sustainable pace.
A supported handover
Our current dentist will finish on 27 September 2026. Ideally, the successful applicant would begin in August or early September to allow time for introductions, continuity of care and a proper handover. We understand that the right person may need to work around an existing notice period and will discuss a practical commencement date.
Shape the role around your life
The role may begin at approximately three days per week, with the potential to expand to four days as the position develops. You may work primarily from Lower Hutt or divide your week between our Lower Hutt and Wellington clinics.
The clinical role
The position involves general and restorative dentistry within a supportive, fully digital environment. Preventive care and long-term maintenance are central to how we practise. We focus on early diagnosis, clear patient education and recommendations that reflect each person’s clinical needs, priorities and circumstances.
For a dentist with suitable experience or interest, there is scope to become involved in:
Digital Smile Design
Orthodontics and aligner treatment
Implant restoration
Comprehensive restorative dentistry
Digital treatment planning
Experience in these areas is welcomed but not essential. We are primarily looking for a capable, ethical general dentist committed to thoughtful and respectful patient care.
A modern digital environment
Our clinics support efficient digital workflows, including iTero intraoral scanning. Supreme Dental Concepts is a Digital Smile Design certified practice, and digital planning is integrated into many aspects of our restorative and aesthetic care. Support can be provided to clinicians who are still developing confidence with digital dentistry.
Who we are looking for
Registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand and holding a current Annual Practising Certificate
Gentle and considered, with the ability to help anxious patients feel safe
Clear in communication and committed to involving patients in decisions
Guided by what is genuinely appropriate for the patient
Interested in long-term relationships rather than short-term production
Comfortable working within a supportive team
Reliable, reflective and committed to high clinical standards
What we offer
An established Lower Hutt patient book from the beginning
A supported handover from the departing dentist
Genuine scope to grow a patient base at our Wellington clinic
Flexible working days and two-site options
A fully digital clinical environment with iTero scanning
Access to Digital Smile Design workflows
Opportunities to develop broader clinical interests
A stable practice caring for local patients since 1990
A calm, trust-led culture where ethical care comes first
Support from an experienced clinical and administrative team
Remuneration
The position offers competitive commission-based remuneration. Transitional income support may be available during the initial handover and patient-book development period. The exact structure, percentage and any introductory guarantee will be discussed transparently with shortlisted applicants and confirmed in the employment or contractor agreement.
To apply
Please tell us a little about yourself, your clinical interests and why a trust-led, patient-first practice appeals to you. Include your current CV, Dental Council registration details, preferred working days, potential commencement date and any areas you would like to develop.
