This two-day course is designed for dentists looking to provide predictable socket preservation procedures to their patients and wishing to explore simple guided bone regeneration procedures for implant surgery. The seminar is a combination of lectures, hands on workshops and live surgeries. The first day will focus on pre-extraction site evaluation, dental implant planning, and site preservation procedures to ensure a smooth path towards surgical implant placement. The second day will focus on simple strategies for guided bone regeneration when there is a horizontal ridge deficiency. Techniques for staged and simultaneous guided bone regeneration with implant placements will taught. Techniques utilising autologous bone, allografts, xenografts and alloplasts will be covered in depth. The course will introduce the use of autologous blood concentrates such as PRF and CGF in regeneration procedures. Different membranes and their indications such as collagen and Ti-reinforced PTFE will also be covered. Day 1 – Friday 30th May 2025 Principles of guided bone regeneration Summary of biomaterials and their characteristics Site assessment and decision making for socket preservation Post extraction site cleaning and disinfection Extraction socket preservation VS ridge augmentations Immediate vs delayed preservation techniques The use of membranes for ridge augmentation Clear protocols for every clinical situation Workshops: Suturing workshop Graft and membrane handling Live surgery on socket preservation techniques Day 2 – Saturday 31st May 2025 Site assessment and decision making for guided bone regeneration of horizontal ridge deficiencies Horizontal ridge development in preparation for implants Simultaneous horizontal GBR with implant placement Techniques covered include: Sausage grafts, buccal block grafts Workshops GBR using particulates with membrane tacks Live surgery with implant placement and simultaneous contour augmentation

Learning outcomes

-Develop an understanding of bone biology and bone healing mechanisms -Develop an understanding of principles associated with guided bone regeneration -Understand and apply the P.A.S.S principles Appreciate the difference between extract socket preservation, socket augmentation and ridge augmentation -Gain extensive knowledge in the different biological materials used in bone grafting including autologous, allograft, xenograft and alloplasts. -Demonstrate an ability to apply decision tree for site assessment and decision making post extraction site and for horizontal ridge augmentation -Understand the different timings for guided bone regeneration including prior to and concurrent with implant placement -Gain hands on experience with guided bone regeneration procedures on manikins and animal models

Speaker

Dr Sheng Zhang

Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, International Dental Implant Association and International Academy of Dentofacial Esthetics. Dr Sheng Zhang is a general dentist with a special interest and practice limited to periodontics and implantology. He has studied extensively around the world learning from the leaders in the field. Dr Sheng is a published author, and his thesis was on Albumin Concentrated Growth Factors (Alb-CGF) in the sinus lift procedure. He has developed novel techniques with the use of autologous blood concentrates as an adjunct to guided bone regeneration. Dr Sheng has specifically designed this course for those experienced implantologists wishing to expand their GBR skills. He will be showing you highly predictable techniques which works in general practice.
