This lecture covers soft tissue grafting for gingival recession using the Modified VISTA technique, explaining when grafting is indicated (aesthetics, sensitivity, progressive recession, orthodontic risk, cervical lesions), how recession is classified (Miller vs Cairo), and what clinical factors affect predictability (phenotype thickness, keratinized tissue, vestibular depth, muscle/frenum pull). It then focuses on connective tissue graft harvesting (mainly from the palate), key handling principles like graft thickness and shrinkage, and post-op care.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1. Identify when soft tissue grafting is indicated for gingival recession and classify defects using Miller and Cairo systems. 2. Evaluate key anatomical and tissue factors that influence the predictability of root coverage outcomes. 3. Describe connective tissue graft harvesting, handling principles, and post-operative considerations. 4. Explain the Modified VISTA technique, including its surgical rationale, flap release strategies, and suturing methods to achieve stable coronal advancement and optimal root coverage.
