NZRC CORE Advanced is designed for dentists who administer any form of sedation. This course is intended for dentists who are expected to manage and supervise resuscitation events. Certification requires learners to demonstrate a specific standard of simulated practical skills facilitated by self-directed learning before the course and face-to-face training. The skills stations cover Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, using an AED, Airway Management, and Medical Emergency scenarios. Formal assessments include skills evaluation, a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) test, and ECG rhythm recognition.

Learning outcomes

Upon completing the CORE Advanced course, participants will feel confident and competent in handling medical emergencies within their clinical area. The course covers: • Understanding the importance of teamwork and communication. • Performing CPR on adults and using an AED. • Performing CPR on children and infants, including managing a choking patient. • Recognizing signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and correctly drawing up and administering adrenaline confidently. • Safely managing airways, including the use of oxygen therapy. • Knowledge and ability to handle various medical emergencies, such as seizures, strokes, chest pain, asthma, and maternal collapse. • Discussing systems and emergency processes within their clinical areas. • Understanding ETCO2 monitoring for the early detection of a deteriorating sedated patient. • Recognizing and interpreting cardiac rhythms.

Natalie Gallagher

Natalie brings over 20 years of experience in emergency nursing and has been teaching CPR and resuscitation for more than a decade. She is accredited by the New Zealand Resuscitation Council to provide training ranging from basic life support to advanced cardiac life support CPR courses. Natalie is passionate about teaching and developing the skills and confidence of both clinical and non-clinical teams and individuals to respond effectively to emergency situations in their workplace and community. She customizes courses to provide scenario-based training tailored to the specific needs of her clients' teams.
