Modern aesthetic dentistry is increasingly influenced by powerful digital tools and emerging AI technologies. While these systems can enhance visualisation, communication, and efficiency, they also carry the risk of oversimplifying complex biological and functional realities if used without critical clinical judgement. This lecture explores a contemporary approach to collaborative treatment planning, where digital dentistry and AI are used not as decision makers, but as support tools within a biologically and functionally driven planning process.

Learning outcomes

Recognise the role of digital dentistry in contemporary treatment planning. Identify where digital and AI assisted planning adds value in aesthetic dentistry, and where biological and functional limitations must take precedence. Communicate complex treatment plans more effectively with patients and the dental team using digital visualisation tools while managing expectations.
