The surgical microscope is a powerful tool that enhances precision in periodontal and peri-implant surgery. Through improved magnification and illumination, microscopic surgery allows clinicians to visualise delicate anatomical structures, perform precise tissue manipulation, and integrate a minimally invasive surgical concept into clinical practice. Successful implementation, however, requires specific microsurgical skills and an optimised clinical setting, including proper ergonomics, operating room organisation, and effective surgeon–assistant coordination.

Learning outcomes

- Understand the fundamental principles and clinical advantages of microscopic surgery in periodontal and peri-implant procedures. - Recognise the importance of magnification, illumination, ergonomics, and surgeon–assistant coordination for successful microscopic surgery. - Apply minimally invasive surgical concepts to improve tissue management, surgical precision, and predictability in periodontal and peri-implant therapy.
