Over 17 million dental implants are placed annually around the world with the cumulative number of dental implants increasing every year. It is equally likely to examine a new patient and find a dental implant crown as it is a tooth supported crown. It is essential for the modern-day oral health professional to be able to triage patients for dental implant therapy. In addition, an understanding of the different treatment concepts available to our patients to achieve the ideal cosmetics, function and health with dental implants allows for comprehensive treatment planning. Finally, clinicians need to be able to provide regular maintenance to their patients’ implant and prosthesis. They also need to identify the common complications with dental implants and how urgently these need to be managed while referring the ones that cannot be managed in the GP setting.
