This continuing professional development session forms part of the Hawke’s Bay Graduate Professional Development Programme (GPDP). It is designed to develop new graduate dentists’ understanding of the legal and contractual aspects of dental practice in New Zealand, including employment status, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, contractual terms, workplace obligations, and the practical implications of entering into professional agreements.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to: * Differentiate between employee and independent contractor arrangements and understand the legal implications of each. * Identify key terms and obligations commonly contained within dental employment and contractor agreements. * Describe the fundamental rights and responsibilities of parties to an employment or contractual relationship. * Identify contractual provisions that may have significant professional, financial or legal implications. * Apply basic principles of New Zealand employment and contract law

Isha Woodhams BDS MBA

Dr Isha Woodhams graduated with a BDS from the University of Otago in 2009 and completed an MBA at Victoria University of Wellington in 2014. She is a general dentist and Clinical Director of Golden Apple Dental in Hawke’s Bay, and has previously served as President of the NZDA Hawke’s Bay Branch and the New Zealand Society of Endodontics. Isha has a strong interest in mentoring and supporting new graduate dentists through the Hawke’s Bay Graduate Professional Development Programme.
