Rupert's research has focused on updating the epidemiology of oral cancer in New Zealand over the past decade, specifically looking at proportions of oral cancers detected and referred by dentists compared to GPs. His findings have suggested that the majority of cancers picked up by dentists are diagnosed at an earlier stage leading to better outcomes In addition to presenting my research findings, he can also provide an update on the current diagnostic and treatment journey for patients with oral cancers, including plenty of photos.
The theme will emphasize the important role general dentists play in the early detection of oral cancers, which can significantly improve patient outcomes by reducing treatment-related morbidity and increasing survival rates.
