As the trusted voice for dentists and dental specialists, NZDA has been advocating on behalf of dental professionals and members of the public since it was first established in 1905. Being united in helping the public make informed choices about their dental care, providing services which enhance the profession and advocating on behalf of dental professionals, the NZDA’s role is to Represent, Support, Advance, and Inform

How you will make an impact:
Recognising the value in strategic, evidence-based advocacy, the Association is seeking to further invest in the area of advocacy and oral health policy. This new role and will serve to enhance NZDA’s role in leading the conversation around oral health through position statements and policies on dental care, prevention, funding and workforce development. NZDA is seeking a motivated and experienced senior clinician for this part time (0.5 FTE) position, allowing the successful candidate to retain clinical practice if desired.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Leading NZDA’s work on policies for prevention, oral health promotion, dental care and workforce development
  • Applying excellent strategic thinking skills to problem-solving oral health issues
  • Gathering and utilising data to inform policies and drive decision-making
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to assess situations and provide direction
  • Delivering on the Association’s commitment to equitable access to oral health care for all New Zealanders 
  • Working with stakeholders and developing enterprising relationships that deliver better health for our nation 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THIS ROLE:

  • Tertiary qualification in Dentistry (BDS)
  • Experience in the public and private sectors 
  • Insights into funded dental care
  • Innovative leadership skills and an interest in influencing change 
  • Experience in the preparation of briefing papers, articles and information
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and able to communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • An alignment with the NZDA values

IT'S A BONUS IF YOU ALSO BRING:

  • Specialist qualification in Dental Public Health, Health Leadership or Business Administration are favourable
  • An understanding of the New Zealand Health System, the current Health Reforms and the place of Oral Health within both
  • An understanding of the New Zealand Political System and ability to act as a spokesperson when/where required 
  • Experience dealing with the media 
  • Existing extensive networks within the dental profession – or the ability to develop these

This is a pivotal role within NZDA, which designed to be a hybrid role both working out of NZDA’s purpose-built facility in Ellerslie, Auckland, and remotely (by mutual agreement). The team are collegial, and the role is well remunerated.
