When did you last refer a patient to the dentist and why? It’s not news that there is a close association between one’s oral health and overall health. The causal relationship between oral diseases and systemic conditions now extends beyond cardiovascular disease and includes diabetes, respiratory disease and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Similarly, systemic diseases are often associated with oral manifestations that require dental assessment and specialist management. It is therefore important that your everyday practice is informed by the evidence base of the links between oral and general health. This course aims to refresh and update your knowledge on dentistry and its relevance to general health. This will have a direct benefit on achieving an effective whole-of-patient approach that embraces the newest evidence-based clinical recommendations. This full program combines lecture material and simulated clinical scenarios to review the links between oral and general health and its clinical implications to medical practice, including clinical guidelines, practical examples, and decision making flow chart. We shall also discuss when it is appropriate to refer a patient for dental assessment. Major Topics •Systemic manifestations of oral health •Oral health determinants of cardiovascular disease •Oral health determinants of respiratory disease •Oral health determinants of metabolic disease •Oral health and cancer therapy •Oral health and pregnancy •Oral manifestations of systemic disease •Clinical decision making flow chart •Referral pathways Learning Objectives At the conclusion of the program participants should be able to: •Have a greater awareness of the links between oral and systemic health •Identify the oral health determinants of systemic health •Apply this knowledge to their general medical practice •Identify systemic diseases with major oral manifestations •Improve the referral pathways for dental assessment Further event information

Solutions for Complex Hard & Soft-Tissue Augmentation Cases Whilst “Prosthetically Driven Implantology” represents a well consolidated concept today, there is still potential for adverse events related to implant supported reconstruction. The presence of bone defects (horizontal and/ or vertical) can negatively influence the 3-D implant position, potentially impacting on the implant success or survival. The concept of Prosthetically Guided Regeneration (PGR) has been analysed thoroughly, and treatment options have been devised to deal with complex implant cases involving both bone and soft-tissue defects. The PGR protocol will also allow the classification of different degrees of atrophy, and to select the more appropriate reconstructive technique. The development of CAD-CAM technologies such as individualised titanium meshes (i.e. Yxoss CBR®), as well as novel biomaterials, have helped clinicians combat the challenges faced on a daily basis. Part 1 (Lecture) - A sequence of clinical cases and HD videos will illustrate this new treatment philosophy. Part 2 (Hands-on) - Attendees will be given the opportunity to trial the use of new biomaterials (Geistlich Fibro-Gide®) and devices (Yxoss CBR® system) that can help the clinician to apply these concepts surgically. This hands-on course is designed for practitioners with an interest in expanding their treatment options for complex hard & soft-tissue augmentation cases. Further event information
